Which CholestOff® Product is Right for You?

Nature Made has two formulations of CholestOff® to help lower cholesterol with plant sterols and stanols (also called phytosterols). Registered dietitian, Lynn Laboranti, describes the characteristics of each product to help you find the formulation that is right for you. In this helpful guide, you’ll learn about the differences between CholestOff Plus® vs. CholestOff Complete® formulas.

1) CholestOff Plus®

Nature Made CholestOff Plus® formula provides a proprietary blend of plant sterols and stanols (Reducol®) USP verified ingredients, in easy-to-swallow liquid softgels that are clinically shown to lower dietary cholesterol. With just two softgels twice daily with water at your two largest meals, this CholestOff Plus® dietary supplement provides 1800 mg of plant sterols and stanols, which is in line with the National Cholesterol Education Program’s (NCEP) recommendation of 2 grams of plant sterols and stanols daily to help lower cholesterol. The National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP), an umbrella program under the National Institutes of Health (NIH), issued recommendations on lowering dietary cholesterol levels, advising a decrease in dietary intake of total saturated fat, cholesterol and trans-fat and an increase in soluble fiber (10-25 g/day) and consumption of plant sterols or stanols (2 g/day). While a typical American diet only supplies ~200 mg of plant sterols/stanols per day, adding a plant sterol/stanol supplement can help achieve the recommendations above. In addition to certain dietary restrictions, the NCEP encourages other Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC). These lifestyle modifications include increasing your physical activity and managing your body weight.

Nature Made CholestOff Plus® is made with esterified sterols and stanols (Reducol®). These esterified sterols and stanols have been clinically studied and shown to lower dietary cholesterol levels. Additionally, Nature Made has conducted clinical trials examining the effects of CholestOff® Plus®. Our study results show that consuming CholestOff Plus®, in addition to following the NCEP’s Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) diet, helped reduce LDL blood cholesterol levels.

2) CholestOff Complete®

Nature Made CholestOff® Complete formula provides the proprietary blend of esterified plant sterols and stanols (Reducol®), along with pantethine (Pantesin®), a derivative of vitamin B5, in easy-to-swallow liquid softgels. With just three softgels twice daily with water at your two largest meals, this blend of esterified plant sterols and stanols lowers cholesterol coming from the diet‡ while the 600 mg pantesin pantethine in CholestOff® Complete® reduces dietary cholesterol produced in the liver. Plant sterols and sterols work to reduce the absorption of dietary cholesterol, while  pantethine helps to lower the production of cholesterol in the liver. When taken as directed, Nature Made CholestOff Complete® provides 1800 mg of plant sterols and stanols, which is in line with the National Cholesterol Education Program’s (NCEP) recommendation of 2 grams of plant sterols and stanols daily to help lower dietary cholesterol. If you want to maintain healthy cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range and support your heart health, a daily supplement with USP verified ingredients can help. Nature Made CholestOff Complete® can be part of your regimen to help support a heart healthy lifestyle.

Products containing at least 400 mg per serving of plant sterols and stanols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily intake of at least 800 mg as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. One Nature Made CholestOff® serving supplies 900 mg of plant sterols and stanols for a daily intake of 1800 mg.
